Miteva: Of eight inherited arbitration cases, Gov't concludes three with EUR 516 million in savings in Budget
- The Government, with its responsible and efficient approach, successfully concluded three of the eight active arbitration proceedings it inherited, in favour of Macedonia, which resulted in EUR 516 million in savings in the Budget, Government Spokeswoman Marija Miteva said Wednesday.
Skopje, 20 August 2025 (MIA) - The Government, with its responsible and efficient approach, successfully concluded three of the eight active arbitration proceedings it inherited, in favour of Macedonia, which resulted in EUR 516 million in savings in the Budget, Government Spokeswoman Marija Miteva said Wednesday.
In addition to the ruling in favour of the state in the arbitration case with some of the investors in the Kazandol mine in Valandovo, saving EUR 115 million, which the Government announced yesterday, Miteva told Wednesday's press conference that the state also won the "Sasa" case, at 445 million, and the "Gama" vs Macedonia case, at over EUR 5 million.
"As regards the false accusations from SDSM that this arbitration case was won and concluded at the time they were in Government, then we expect an answer as to why negotiations were held in Vienna in the first half of April 2023 for a possible settlement with Kazandol, between representatives of the Government and the plaintiffs, which confirms that this Government has made a decision rejecting the proposed settlement," said Miteva.
In addition to the eight inherited arbitration cases, three of which involve investment disputes and five involve trade disputes, Miteva pointed out that the Government has also inherited an announcement of a warning of lawsuits for at least four more, and the total potential damage amounted to EUR 865 million.
"This speaks of the irresponsible attitude of the previous government, which, with its actions, put the state budget and international reputation at risk," Miteva said.
