Misajlovski - Coaker: United Kingdom remains committed to development of Macedonian defense capacities

Skopje, 16 July 2025 (MIA) - Defense Minister Vlado Misajlovski met Wednesday with UK Minister of State for Defence, Lord Vernon Coaker, exchanging opinions on bilateral defense cooperation and security developments in the region and Europe.

The pending defense cooperation agreement was in the focus of the meeting. The United Kingdom remains committed to the development of Macedonian defense capacities, especially in regard to meeting the NATO capability targets, as well as cyber-defense, military education and language courses, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release.

It adds that the Macedonian Army and the British Armed Forces are continually jointly trained and developed.

In 2023 and 2024, Macedonian troops took part in exercise "Cambrian Patrol" in Wales, whereas members of the British Armed Forces participated in several large international drills held at the Krivolak army field. In addition, a number of Macedonian officers have graduated from the renowned Royal College of Defence Studies.

Defense cooperation between the two countries dates back from the signing of the first memorandum of understanding back in 1995, reads the press release.
