Skopje, 1 April 2026 (MIA) - Macedonian identity will no longer be on sale and I am convinced that the spineless politicians who are a part of the soft tissue of Macedonian identity will become history after the next parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Wednesday responding to criticism by opposition party SDSM over the country’s Euro-integration process.
“The way in which SDSM sees the Euro-integration process is exclusively as selling out the Macedonian national identity. I would say these are spineless policies. They [SDSM] are the soft tissue of Macedonian identity and in this way they endanger the entire strategy we are building as a Government,” Mickoski told journalists.
According to Mickoski, “the followers of Zhivkovism in Bulgaria” are celebrating to see that “politicians like this are still active in Macedonia, like the people from SDSM who think they will attract some kind of attention in this way”.
“Everyone in the world and the Macedonian citizens should know that this thing cannot come to pass without VMRO-DPMNE. And VMRO-DPMNE will not embark on any kind of adventure as long as it doesn’t have a clear end and until the human rights of the Macedonian community in our eastern neighbor are guaranteed. We won’t move an inch. We will wait. If not us, then we will transfer this to those who come after us, if they don’t succeed, then the ones who come after them,” the Prime Minister and leader of VMRO-DPMNE said, referring to the constitutional changes the country is required to implement in order to launch its accession talks with the EU.
