Mickoski: Impossible to fight crime and corruption with current PPO and Chief Prosecutor

Skopje, 14 August 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Thursday it is impossible to fight crime and corruption with the current Public Prosecutor's Office (PPO) and Chief Prosecutor, since institutions are continually reporting wrongdoing but prosecutors are doing nothing.

"Institutions are undertaking measures and reporting but it is up to the PPO to do something. You cannot expect results in the fight against crime and corruption with this PPO and Chief Prosecutor. There are hundreds of reports from the institutions to prosecutors but to no avail," PM Mickoski told reporters when asked about the State Audit Office reports on wrongdoing and irregularities in institutions.

Last month, the Parliament backed a no-confidence motion against Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski submitted by Levica with 71 votes in favor, and no votes against or abstentions.

Lawmakers also adopted a conclusion noting that “the allegations in the motion against the work of Chief Prosecutor Ljupcho Kocevski are founded”, requiring that it is delivered to the Government and the Prosecutor.
