Mickoski: If Kedev says so, something is up; responsibility will be taken

Skopje, 26 September 2025 (MIA) - If a prominent cardiologist like Sashko Kedev points something out, it should be looked into, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Friday when asked by the press to comment on Kedev's allegations that some hospitals in the country were doing unnecessary heart surgeries and implanting patients with stents to get money from the state.

PM Mickoski spoke to reporters after his visit to the University Clinic of Cardiac Surgery.

"When a world expert like academician Kedev says this, there has to be something behind it and we need to find out what it is," Mickoski said.

"We will not leave anything to chance. Anyone who profited on the backs and the health of our citizens will have to take responsibility," he said.

The prime minister was accompanied in his visit to the hospital by Health Minister Azir Aliu, who declined to comment on "the cardiology cases."

Earlier this week, Aliu said health authorities would release a report on the matter once the experts were done going over the medical records of the people who had lodged complaints of unnecessary cardiovascular procedures being performed on them.

The committee of experts includes Ministry of Health staff, members of the Doctors Chamber and three foreign doctors who have yet to arrive from Slovenia, Austria and Italy. mr/
