Mickoski: I don't expect different rhetoric from eastern neighbour, world and Europe saw what Bulgarian politicians' goal was

Ohrid, 12 July 2025 (MIA) - I do not expect our eastern neighbour to send a different message, they must reflect before our European and NATO partners a rhetoric by which they will be accusing us, when in essence the world and Europe have seen what the goal of the Bulgarian politicians was, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said commenting on Sofia's reactions following his statement regarding the Bulgarian Minister of Foreign Affairs.

"The goal of Bulgarian politicians is no different from the goal that the Russian leadership has in Ukraine. It is an attempt to assimilate the Macedonian people, and a kind of identity engineering that should really not happen in the 21st century in Europe, moreover it is coming from an EU member state that should share European values. Instead of lending a hand to Macedonia, instead of supporting us on the path to full-fledged EU membership, which is also part of the Good Neighbourly Relations Agreement, they have a different goal, and it is good that everyone was able to see it. It is good that everyone now knows what the ultimate goal is - it is not to include a few hundred Macedonian citizens in the Constitution, but the goal is much deeper and more dangerous for Europe. In this way, the EU is also losing some of its image and I don't know how long it will have patience with our eastern neighbour," Mickoski said after Saturday's launch event for the fully renovated Museum on Water in the Bay of Bones in Ohrid.
