Mickoski: Guaranteeing fair representation, law ready and soon before Parliament

Skopje, 29 January 2026 (MIA) - Absolute attention is being paid to fair representation. I personally guarantee this. Neither as a person, nor as a politician, nor as Prime Minister will I allow anyone to minimize or marginalize anyone. The quality of people, regardless of their ethnic background, must be the key factor and the priority. This is the cornerstone of constitutional values and part of international resolutions and conventions, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said Thursday during Q&A session in Parliament.

Responding to a question from MP Skender Rexhepi, Mickoski stated that the law on fair representation has been finalized and will soon enter parliamentary procedure.

“The law has been finalized and has received the Venice Commission’s latest positive opinion. I would like to remind you that the Venice Commission’s opinion, in line with recent amendments to the EU accession process and the updated methodology requirements, serves as a decisive factor. It is followed accordingly, and I expect that the law will soon be presented to Parliament. I hope it will be adopted unanimously and that MPs will not jeopardize the country’s European integration process, allowing this law, which guarantees fair representation, to be implemented,” Prime Minister Mickoski noted.

He reiterated that he does not comment on Constitutional Court decisions.

“I am concerned that you continue to frame issues in ethnic terms, remaining trapped in this pattern, believing it will gain you political points after so many years on the scene. In reality, you are becoming increasingly marginal, which I think sends a negative message to your voters. You should approach matters more broadly and objectively,” Mickoski told Rexhepi.
