Mickoski expects PPO to clear up wiretapping case

Skopje, 4 September 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expects the Public Prosecutor's Office to clear up the case involving the wiretapping by people within the National Security Agency (NSA) and Intelligence Agency (IA) and finally put an end to the abuse of these resources by these agencies.
"It is a tradition to have VMRO-DPMNE under surveillance when SDSM is in power. I already said what I had to say in my statement upon receiving the information about the period when I was opposition leader. Being PM now, it is logical that I now receive such reports. I expect the PPO to clear up this case," PM Mickoski told reporters.
According to him, the opposition and SDSM are concerned because the resources of the former Security and Counterintelligence Administration (UBK) and the current NSA and IA have been abused for decades.
"The abuse of the resources and meddling into the lives of others should end once and for all times. Those who deal with other people instead of themselves are pitiful," said Mickoski.
Regarding the declassification of the documents, the PM said the PPO is the one deciding on this, not the Government.
"Those who produce such information is either legally illiterate or wants to politicize the situation," added Mickoski.
The NSA has said that agency employees conducted surveillance operations of the incumbent PM and then-opposition leader, as well as journalists and businessmen. Earlier this week, Mickoski and NSA director Bojan Hristovski confirmed the reports but failed to produce details, saying these are classified documents, while expecting that the case would be prosecuted and those at fault would be held accountable.
The Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Corruption said later that it has opened a pre-investigative procedure after receiving the NSA reports.
