Skopje, 2 January 2026 (MIA) — By April 2026, all pensioners in the country will receive pensions of Mden 15,000 or more, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told the press Friday in response to reporters' questions after attending the opening of a new child care center in Kochani.

The new flat increase will improve the living standard of pensioners nationwide, he added.

Recalling that pensioners began receiving flat increases in 2024, PM Mickoski said that by April 2026 their pensions would be Mden 7,000 higher than the pensions they received in Oct. 2024, when the policy was introduced. 

Prior to that, 150,000 pensioners' pensions were as low as Mden 10-12,000.

"Out of a total of 330,000 pensioners, 150,000 were in that group. Which means that now, with this Mden 7,000 flat increase, they no longer have pensions lower than Mden 15,000," he said, adding that this group of retirees' monthly retirement checks now amounted to Mden 17-19,000.

"And as a government, we will continue in that direction," Mickoski told reporters. mr/
