Skopje, 2 January 2025 (MIA) – Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski expects to hold a meeting on January 12 with the owner and management of the Aksa Energy company to set priorities for the announced investment of EUR 1 billion in gas-powered plants and, if everything goes as planned, hold a cornerstone laying event in autumn of 2026.

Commenting on the Aksa investment, the PM told reporters on Friday that a feasibility study was done by a renowned global company, parameters are clear and priorities are defined.

"Yet, at the same time, I want to inform the public that this is not the only project worth up to EUR 1 billion -  we have several other projects under way in the area of gas infrastructure and cogeneration gas power plants. I expect a press conference soon to inform the citizens about them and about what has been done," said Mickoski.

The Aksa Energy company is part of the Turkish group Kazanci Holding with which the Government previously signed a memorandum of cooperation. It is a leading Turkish company with over 25 years of experience in the field, operating with an installed capacity of over 3,500 MW in eight countries, and active in 22 countries across four continents.

The investment of over EUR 1 billion includes a secondary gas distribution network, heating grid and 500MW co-generation plants that produce 4.1 TWh of electricity and 720 GWh of heating energy.
