Mexhiti announces plans to fit older residential buildings in Chair with modern elevators

Skopje, 6 October 2025 (MIA) - Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Vlen candidate for Chair mayor, Izet Mexhiti, announced plans to install modern elevators in older four- and five-story residential buildings in Chair.

According to Mexhiti, preliminary analysis shows that technical conditions exist, pointing out that without any major interventions, 81 elevators intended for 81 entrances in 31 buildings can be built and installed.

"I'm announcing a capital project to build and install modern elevators in all existing residential buildings in Chair. For decades, residents of older four- and five-story buildings have faced a huge challenge - lack of elevators. For our elderly neighbours, for people with mobility difficulties, for families with small children, climbing stairs every day is a huge hassle. This is not an empty promise. Our commitment is demonstrated through action. Our engineering teams are already on the ground. They are conducting a detailed technical assessment of each building to determine the best and safest solutions for the installation. Preparations for implementation are already underway. In addition, we are working on the assessment of all other older collective housing facilities," said Mexhiti.

Mexhiti has appointed Vlen list principal in the Municipality of Chair, Muhamed Murtezi, as the project's coordinator to oversee whether it will be implemented efficiently, transparently and as quickly as possible. He noted that Murtezi will be directly responsible for overseeing every phase of the implementation.

Highlighting the advantages of the implementation of this project, Mexhiti said it is part of the coalition's broader vision for a complete transformation of housing conditions in the municipality.

He added that in parallel with this, he will also implement a project for construction of energy-efficient facades in all older buildings.

"Our goal is clear - facades provide warmer homes and energy savings of up to 50 percent, while elevators provide easy and dignified access to them. We are creating a complete solution for modern and comfortable living. Chair deserves to move forward, and we know how to do it," Mexhiti said.
