Skopje, 17 February 2026 (MIA) - According to Eurostat data for 2025, the median age of the population in the country is 42.21 years, compared with 44.9 years in the EU.
In comparison with 2015, the median age of the population in Macedonia has risen by nearly five years (37.4 in 2015).
Of the regional countries, only Montenegro has a younger population than ours (40.4 years), while Albania (44.3) and Serbia (45.4) have older populations. The average age in Greece and Bulgaria is 47.2 years, while in Croatia and Slovenia it is 45.5 years.

Across the EU, it ranged from 39.6 years in Ireland to 49.1 years in Italy.
At EU level, the median age has increased by 2.1 years since 2015, when it was 42.8 years. Increases were recorded in all EU countries, except Germany and Malta (each -0.4 years).
The ageing of the population was most pronounced in Slovakia and Cyprus, where the median increased by 4.0 years, followed by Italy (+3.9 years), Greece and Poland (each +3.8 years) and Portugal (+3.7 years).
