Mayors to be elected in second round in four of Skopje’s ten municipalities and the city of Skopje

Skopje, 1 November 2025 (MIA) - Four of Skopje’s ten municipalities, along with the City of Skopje, will choose mayors in the second round. On Sunday, citizens of Aerodrom, Karposh, Centar, Shuto Orizari, and Skopje will elect their mayors.

Six municipalities in Skopje elected mayors in the first round, with the incumbents of Butel, Gazi Baba, and Gjorche Petrov winning a second term.

Orce Gjorgjievski and Amar Mecinovikj will face off in the second round of the mayoral election in Skopje. Gjorgjievski, representing VMRO-DPMNE and its coalition, secured 91,663 votes (39.41%) in the first round, while Mecinovikj of Levica garnered 30,665 votes (13.18%).

In the first round of voting for Skopje mayor, 232,581 citizens (49.04% of registered voters) cast their ballots. The second round will see 474,304 eligible voters at 685 polling stations.

Aerodrom municipality will hold a mayoral runoff between incumbent Dejan Miteski of VMRO-DPMNE and coalition, and Aleksandar Trajanovski of SDSM and coalition. Miteski garnered 16,257 votes (49.11%) in the first round, compared to 6,881 votes (20.78%) for Trajanovski.

A total of 68,772 voters are registered in Aerodrom municipality. In the first round, turnout was 48.14%, with 33,106 voters casting ballots.

Sotir Lukrovski (VMRO-DPMNE and coalition) and incumbent Stevcho Jakimovski (GROM, “Experience for Success” coalition) will compete in the second round in Karposh municipality. In the first round, Lukrovski got 10,284 votes (34.51%) and Jakimovski 8,761 (29.40%).

A total of 56,856 voters are registered in Karposh municipality. In the first round, turnout was 52.42%, with 29,803 voters casting ballots.

Goran Gerasimovski (SDSM and coalition) and Miroslav Labudovikj (ZNAM Movement) will compete in the second round for mayor in Centar Municipality. In the first round, Gerasimovski got 8,535 votes (38.19%) and Labudovikj 5,707 votes (25.54%).

A total of 44,109 voters are registered in Centar Municipality. In the first round, turnout was 50.66%, with 22,347 voters casting ballots.

Kurto Dudush (Roma Union and incumbent) and Erdzhan Demir (VMRO-DPMNE and coalition) will compete in the second round for mayor in Shuto Orizari municipality. In the first round, Dudush received 3,223 votes (36.43%) and Demir 1,841 votes (20.81%).

A total of 23,893 voters are registered in Shuto Orizari municipality. In the first round, turnout was 37.03%.

Six municipalities in Skopje elected mayors in the first round, with the incumbents of Butel, Gazi Baba, and Gjorche Petrov winning a second term.

Darko Kostovski, candidate of VMRO-DPMNE and its coalition, was elected mayor in Butel municipality with 52.96% of the votes in the first round.

In Gazi Baba municipality, VMRO-DPMNE and coalition candidate Boban Stefkovski was elected mayor, receiving 58.42% of the total votes in the first round.

In Gjorche Petrov municipality, VMRO-DPMNE and coalition candidate Aleksandar Stojkoski was elected mayor, winning 56.07% of the total votes in the first round.

In Kisela Voda municipality, VMRO-DPMNE and coalition candidate Beti Stamenkoska-Trajkoska was elected mayor, receiving 57.20% of the total votes in the first round.

In Saraj municipality, the Vlen coalition candidate Muhamet Elmazi was elected mayor, receiving 50.28% of the total votes in the first round.

In Chair municipality, the Vlen coalition candidate Izet Mexhiti was elected mayor, receiving 51.78% of the total votes in the first round.
