'Macedonian Village' complex reopens after 7-year hiatus

'Macedonian Village' complex reopens after 7-year hiatus

Skopje, 19 June 2025 (MIA) - The "Macedonian Village" complex on Vodno hill overlooking Skopje reopened on Thursday after a 7-year hiatus, with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski saying it will contribute to the development of the country's tourism sector.

Company "La Terrazza" is the complex's concessionaire, after its bid was selected at the public call released by the Government's General Affairs Department.

"I urge all those who have not visited the Macedonian Village to come and see what the facilities have to offer. We are gradually restoring what was forgotten, destroyed and devastated over the past seven years. Tourism has been recording extraordinary results since the start of the year, with the number of foreign guests rising by 20 percent compared to the same period in 2024," said PM Mickoski.

He expects the trend to continue, saying the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is committed to the development of the tourism sector.

General Affairs Department director Ivica Tomovski said the complex represents the identity and the culture of Macedonians, because its 12 houses with specific architecture tell the ages-long history of the country.

"This complex will also be an added tourism destination for the city, leading to more tourists and more jobs," said Tomovski.

The "Macedonian Village" complex is consisted of 12 authentic houses, with rooms where Macedonian crafts are presented. Some parts of the complex are used as hotel rooms and there is also a restaurant section.
