Skopje, 15 November 2025 (MIA) – The fifth session of the Joint Committee on Economic Cooperation between Macedonia and Hungary enabled a new dimension of bilateral energy cooperation underlying the importance of regional stability and the security of energy supply, said the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources.

A delegation of the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources, led by state secretary Goran Jovanovski, participated in the session of the Joint Committee, which reaffirmed the joint strategic priorities and energy commitments, said the press release. The expert working groups from the two energy ministries agreed strategic points that will improve energy infrastructure, efficiency and innovations.
Signing of a protocol that defines the common energy targets and activities concluded the committee’s session so as to initiate regional stability and energy security.
“Energy cooperation remains a key pillar of our relations. We affirmed the importance of uninterrupted natural gas supply, support for infrastructural projects that boost the safety and resilience of our energy systems recognizing that to secure a safe and sustainable energy future is a joint responsibility,” state secretary Jovanovski said.

Jovanovski and the Macedonian delegation also held bilateral meetings with the chair of the Joint Committee, Péter Sztáray, and Peter Holicza, deputy state secretary at the Ministry of Energy of Hungary, in which the joint commitment to infrastructure development, improving energy efficiency and modernizing energy production systems was strengthened.
“The exchange of good practices and expertise in the operation of the electricity market is crucial. We are encouraged by the progress in the technical dialogue on geothermal energy. The modernization of REK Bitola, with a focus on dry or hybrid cooling systems, is another area where our cooperation can bring real benefits. The enhanced cooperation between HUPX and MEMO will further facilitate the integration of markets, the exchange of data and the development of capacities, promoting transparent and efficient operation of the electricity market in our region,” said Jovanovski.
The Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources says that the session clearly showed that the cooperation between the two countries is not limited to signing protocols. “It is based on trust, expertise and a vision for a sustainable energy future, which will ensure security and prosperity for the entire region,” said the press release.
