Ljutkov: 2,618 applications received through public call for support of culture projects in 2026, confirmation of interest and trust in system

Skopje, 1 February 2026 (MIA) – Minister of Culture and Tourism Zoran Ljutkov said Sunday that 2,618 applications have been received through the national e-application system for the annual call for support of projects of national interest in culture for 2026, pointing out that the number of applications received confirms the interest and trust in the system.

"These are projects that will boost cultural offerings, open space for new creative expression and contribute to the international affirmation of Macedonian culture. The interest that artists and cultural organizations show in the annual competition this year is a clear confirmation that our cultural scene is dynamic, innovative and ready to create. The annual program for projects in culture for 2026 is a substantial step forward and proof that we don't see culture as an expense but as a strategic investment in our national identity, in the creative potential of people and in the future of the entire society," Ljutkov told a press conference at the Government on Sunday.

He noted that the selection process was carried out based on clearly defined criteria, predefined priorities and expert committees composed of competent persons from relevant fields.

The Minister said that funds have been increased in several areas, paying attention to quality, quantity and balanced development of culture. Special attention has been paid to contemporary works, international cooperation and creative industries, areas which, he noted, not only carry cultural value but significant economic potential.

"It is significant to note that in 2026 we remain committed to systematic strengthening of national institutions," Ljutkov stressed, noting that after a delegated budget model for national institutions was first introduced last year, as a pilot project for 18 of them, the model will be expanded to 28 national institutions with a delegated budget this year due to positive experiences.

He added that the model has shown measurable and concrete results and is therefore growing into a systemic and long-term sustainable practice.

"This model is a concrete step towards greater autonomy, more efficient management of program funds, and clearly defined responsibility and accountability," said the Minister of Culture and Tourism.

Ljutkov noted that the total budget of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for 2026 is Mden 5,194,975,000, which is Mden 519,713,000 higher than last year. The budget allocated for projects of national interest in culture stands at Mden 1,070,417,000.

"This is a clear and unequivocal message that there is support for culture and that the state stands behind its artists, institutions and cultural workers," Ljutkov pointed out.
