Lafchiski wraps up Pentagon visit: High level of trust, cooperation between Macedonian and U.S. armies reaffirmed

Skopje, 10 March 2026 (MIA) - The cooperation and high level of trust between the Macedonian and U.S. armies, the strategic importance of the Krivolak army field and possibilities for its development, as well as the equipping and modernization of the Army, were in the focus of meetings between the Army Chief of Staff, Major-General Sashko Lafchiski, and top officials of the U.S. Armed Forces at the Pentagon, concluding a multi-day working visit to the U.S. Armed Forces.

On Monday, General Lafchiski met with the Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army, General Randy George, reaffirming the high level of trust and cooperation between the two armies, the Army General Staff said in a press release.

"Paryicipants in the meeting shared the experiences of the U.S. Army in conducting modern conflicts, including the development of new capabilities, primarily in dealing with threats from drones and unmanned systems. In addition, interlocutors discussed the strategic importance of the Krivolak army field and possibilities for its development, in order to increase the capacities for conducting training and exercises," reads the press release. 

As part of the visit, General Lafchiski also met with the U.S. Army Deputy Chief of Staff, G-8, Lieutenant General Peter Benchoff, and representatives from the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency. Interlocutors at separate meetings discussed the processes related to the equipping and modernization of the Army. 

"General Lafchiski's meetings in Washington on Monday were preceded by a series of significant activities, including a meeting with the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Christopher Mahoney, attendance of a ceremony of commander handover at the Vermont National Guard (NG), and a meeting with the new state Adjutant General, Major General Henry Harder," the press release adds.

The Army General Staff notes that the working visit of the Macedonian delegation reaffirms the ongoing cooperation between the Macedonian Army and the United States Armed Forces.
