Skopje, 7 April 2026 (MIA) - In a message on World Health Day - April 7, Health Insurance Fund (HIF) head Sasho Klekovski said HIF's key mission is clear, to be a stable financial pillar of the healthcare system, so that doctors can treat patients and patients can be cared for. He noted that over the past period, through joint work, HIF has made significant steps and ensured higher income for healthcare workers, including a real increase in public healthcare wages and a historic increase in the capitation of primary care physicians. 

He extended deep gratitude to all healthcare workers, pointing out that they are the ones working on the front lines ensuring patient care every day.

"We have made significant steps in increasing access to medicines, especially expensive biological therapy. After more than a decade, we have added new medications to Positive List of Prescription Drugs. We are working to improve working conditions, with new equipment and new methods. These are not just numbers in the budget. This means better access to therapy, greater safety for patients and more motivated healthcare professionals," said Klekovski. 

According to him, the Kochani tragedy has also highlighted the healthcare system's capacity to respond quickly, be supportive and professional during the most challenging times.  

"In such times, the HIF is here to guarantee that all funds are always available where they are most needed. Our goal remains a healthcare system that is accessible, high-quality and sustainable for all. Health is our shared responsibility. Let's protect it, promote it and invest in it every day," Klekovski said in his message on April 7 - World Health Day.
