Skopje, 4 July 2025 (MIA) - The Government extended on Friday measures and recommendations in response to the ongoing heatwave. The recommendations come at the request of the Ministry of Health and in accordance with the national weather service forecasts, as well as in line with Phase 3 of the Action Plan for prevention from heatwave effects on the population's health 2025-2030, and will remain in effect through July 8.
Due to the heatwave gripping the country, pregnant women and persons over the age of 60 are to be released from work duties, which does not apply to employees in critical infrastructure (healthcare, police, army, transport, energy, public utilities). The Government also recommends employers to reorganize outdoor work activities during the period from 11 am to 5 pm, implement flexible or remote work arrangements where possible, and ensure microclimate working conditions in accordance with the Action Plan, namely office temperatures of up to 25°C. In addition, health, education and social institutions should proceed in line with emergency plans.
The measures are aimed at ensuring ongoing and efficient protection of the health of the population through preventive action and appropriate institutional response, the Ministry of Health points out, adding that together with all competent institutions, it will continue with regular information and implementation of the measures, in order to protect the health of citizens.
According to the national weather service, the country is amid a heatwave which is to continue through mid next week. Daytime temperatures everywhere will climb over 30°C, set to reach over 40°C at some places. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon and overnight.
