Gjorgjievski: A 60,000-vote difference between opponents has never occurred in local elections in City of Skopje

Skopje, 28 October 2025 (MIA) - VMRO-DPMNE and coalition candidate for Mayor of Skopje, Orce Gjorgjievski, stated Tuesday evening that he did not win due to low turnout in the first round of local elections and expressed his belief that on Sunday, November 2, when the second round takes place, more citizens will vote and he will win.

Gjorgjievski pointed out that so far there has never been a 60,000-vote difference between candidates in local elections in the City of Skopje, as is the case between him and Amar Mecinovikj from Levica.

During the presentation of the mayoral candidates for Skopje in the Kanal 5 TV debate, Gjorgjievski emphasized that he is a political scientist and comes from the private sector, and that he is proud to be a member of VMRO-DPMNE. Mecinovikj stated that he studied political science but did not graduate, that he has worked in various jobs, including as a freelancer, and that he is proud of that.

During the debate, Gjorgjievski asked Mecinovikj, a Levica MP, whether he would resign after Monday’s defeat. Mecinovikj replied that he should be asked about that then and that he might be the winner on Monday.
