Former president Ivanov presented with honorary degree at Turkish university

Skopje, 10 May 2025 (MIA) – Former president Gjorge Ivanov, who was an honorary guest at an academic ceremony of the Namik Kemal University in Tekirdag, Turkey, was presented with the title Doctor Honoris Causa as a recognition of his contribution to scientific development, advancing of intercultural dialogue and strengthening of regional cooperation and his role in promoting the values of understanding, coexistence and peace among the Balkan nations.

Also, his public and scientific commitment to affirming Balkan identity and multicultural living were praised, said the former president’s office on Saturday. 

Addressing the ceremony, Ivanov, who served as president from 2009 until 2019, thanked for the honor noting that academic cooperation and fostering historical memory are key elements in building common future in the Balkans, based on trust, respect and solidarity.

Also, Ivanov addresses a session as part of the 28th Eurasian Economic Summit in Istanbul, organized by the Marmara Foundation on May 7-8, said the press release. 

In his address, Ivanov said that 80 years after the end of World War Two, the world is still face with wars, inequality and new forms of threats. WWII winners, he noted, had promised a new world of peace and prosperity, but today despite the technological progress and economic growth, the world is far away from meeting these ideals.

Former president Ivanov has been taking part in almost all Eurasian economic summits of the Marmara Foundation since 2009, which brings together political leaders, representatives of international organizations, the academic and business community and the civil society in the region of Europe and Eurasia.
