Former Oncology directors Nikola Vasev, Nehad Nuhi released from custody on bail

Skopje, 19 June 2026 (MIA) — Skopje's Oncology Clinic former director Nikola Vasev and its former organizational director Nehad Nuhi are being released from custody, after the Criminal Court approved the defense’s request and prosecutors agreed to let them post bail.

According to the Criminal Court, both men used property mortgages to post bail: Vasev’s was set at nearly EUR 184,000, and Nuhi’s was around EUR 348,000.

As part of their release conditions, both have been banned from leaving Skopje and have to report to the court once a month. Their passports have been seized, as well.

Vasev and Nuhi are accused in the Oncology 2 case of illegally buying medications through fake tenders and stealing patient therapies between 2018 and 2022.

Prosecutors say the scam cost the state budget nearly EUR 36 million.

Vasev and two other doctors also face charges in a separate case, Oncology 1, for the negligent medical treatment of patients. mr/
