DUI leader calls for snap parliamentary elections to be held alongside local elections

Skopje, 5 June 2025 (MIA) - Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) leader Ali Ahmeti called for early parliamentary elections to be held alongside the upcoming local elections in a speech Thursday at a rally in the Municipality of Chair celebrating the 23rd anniversary since the party’s establishment.

“The political parties within the European Front are coordinating, we are communicating with all constructive political forces in the country, and we think we will be a strong front at the local elections so that we can successfully govern with the municipalities. At the same time, we are firmly committed to holding early parliamentary elections alongside the local ones. We ask for this because it represents salvation for all of us, as well as sustainable stability,” Ahmeti said.

He dismissed claims of DUI’s corruption and called for a vetting of all politicians in the country.

“Their claims that DUI is corrupt don’t hold any water. Let's conduct a vetting, why are you afraid of a vetting? Let’s investigate the origin of the property of all politicians, as well as the privatization that happened in our country from 1991 to 2001,” Ahmeti said.

The DUI leader underscored the party seeks nothing more than “establishing European standards, justice and stability in the region”. He alleged that a “political persecution” is being conducted against DUI related to judicial proceedings.

Ahmeti said the country needs unity and coordinated policies, “since it is a country of all ethnic communities that live in it”.

“Interethnic relations are the alpha and omega for peace, stability and prosperity in this country,” said the DUI leader.
