Cannot speak of peace in Ukraine without Ukrainians, says Croatian Parliament Speaker
- There can be no discussions about peace in Ukraine without the participation of Ukrainians because that endangers their sovereignty and territorial integrity. It would be a great blow to international law and the world we have been building since the Second World War, said the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament (Sabor), Gordan Jandroković, in his address Thursday to the MPs in the Parliament of North Macedonia.

Skopje, 6 March 2025 (MIA) - There can be no discussions about peace in Ukraine without the participation of Ukrainians because that endangers their sovereignty and territorial integrity. It would be a great blow to international law and the world we have been building since the Second World War, said the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament (Sabor), Gordan Jandroković, in his address Thursday to the MPs in the Parliament of North Macedonia.
Jandroković noted that the world is changing politically and becoming more dangerous, while in the context of the war in Ukraine, the Sabor Speaker said “dark clouds are gathering over the EU and NATO these days” and “perhaps this is the biggest turning point for the two organizations since their establishment”.
“We don’t know what their future will look like, which is why it is very important to invest great efforts, to establish lasting global peace. In recent months, we have seen that there are different visions on both sides of the Atlantic about how peace should look like. Time will show how possible it will be to establish a joint vision for that peace. For us, it is important that this peace is sustainable and just, and that it doesn't lead to an uncertain future... There can be no discussions about peace in Ukraine without the participation of Ukrainians because that endangers their sovereignty and territorial integrity. It would be a great blow to international law and the world we have been building since the Second World War. We cannot undermine that order because it would be an incredible precedent that will cause instability and will mean justifying aggression,” Jandroković said, adding “our joint commitment is to affirm international law, the order based on international law and not on the might of the strongest”.
The Sabor Speaker stressed that respect for international law and respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty are at the heart of international relations. “The more dangerous global environment”, he said, “affirms the importance of establishing even closer cooperation between friends”.
“And this is what the Republic of North Macedonia and the Republic of Croatia are. It is important that we continue cooperating on a bilateral and multilateral level. And this is the purpose of my visit. This is happening at a significant moment – in three weeks we mark the establishment of diplomatic relations, as well as our alliance within NATO. I hope that our partnership in NATO will be upgraded with your membership in the European Union as well,” Jandroković stressed in his address to Parliament, in which he also touched upon economic cooperation and the friendly relations between the two countries.
