Skopje, 24 August 2025 (MIA) – A highway connecting Bitola and Skopje will be built, announced Transport Minister Aleksandar Nikoloski speaking at Sunday’s panel as part of the fair of mayors “Four Years Working for You.”

It would be ready in 2028 or 2029, he added saying it is expected to boost the business climate in Bitola.

"We are currently working together with the director of the State Rods Public Enterprise on a huge project, a complete highway connection of Bitola with Skopje and of course with Greece. This will mean that somewhere in 2028-2029 there will be a complete highway solution or expressway from Skopje to Bitola in a super modern, fast but at the same time safe way. The trip will take about a pleasant hour and 30 minutes, which will completely change the business climate in Bitola, but also the way of functioning,” said Nikoloski.

In Shtip, he added, an artificial lake will be built to improve local tourism.

“Regarding Shtip, we are working a lot in the area of ​​tourism. We are working on two major projects together with the mayor on urbanization in the area of ​​the Kezovica spa, and of course, the construction of the first artificial tourist lake that is being built above Shtip,” said the transport minister.
