Skopje, 3 May 2025 (MIA) - In a press release published Saturday on occasion of International Press Freedom Day, the Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services (AVMU) stressed that only professional and independent media can contribute to a sustainable social and democratic development in the age of rapid technological changes.

“Press freedom means the right for journalists to investigate and report without any pressure. But with the development of artificial intelligence, this freedom gains new meaning and faces new challenges,” AVMU said.

The Agency said AI creates new opportunities but also carries significant risks in regard to generating disinformation, fake news and manipulative videos.

“AI represents a valuable resource in journalism, but it cannot serve as a complete replacement of thorough checks, critical thinking and objectivity. In this new reality, it is essential for media to use these tools carefully and responsibly, while sticking to the highest ethical and professional standards in their work,” the Agency said in its press release.
