Skopje, 11 July 2025 (MIA) - Mayor of the City of Skopje, Danela Arsovska, claims that on Friday, during an inspection and control of an illegal construction in the Municipality of Chair, she and the team that accompanied her were attacked first verbally, then physically, with kicks, in front of members of the Ministry of Interior. She says that the person who is most likely the owner of the illegal building has threatened her and her family.
After the attack, she headed to the 8 September hospital, where she has received medical assistance.
In a statement to the media after leaving the hospital, Arsovska said the person was found stealing electricity and water, and he had not paid a single denar, nor taxes, nor utilities, neither to the City of Skopje, nor anywhere else. The Mayor noted that the person does not have any approval or documentation for the construction.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior confirmed that the incident happened on Kumbara street, and the case was reported to the Skopje police at 12:15 p.m.
"On 11.07.2025 at 12:15 pm, a person identified by the initials A.J. reported to the Skopje police that while undertaking work duties on Kumbara street, the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Danela Arsovska, was physically attacked, and several people made verbal threats to her. She did not want to file a report about the incident, and headed to the 8 September hospital to receive medical assistance," said the Interior Ministry.
In a press release on Friday, the Municipality of Chair strongly condemned the incident that occurred between the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Danela Arsovska, and several people on the territory of the Municipality of Chair.
Such actions are unacceptable and represent a serious violation of the norms of behavior in a democratic and civilized society, said the Municipality.
The Municipality further pointed out that it is important for the public to be accurately informed, i.e. that the event is not related to the institution at all.
"No employee or official of the Municipality of Chair was involved, nor present at the scene of the event," the Municipality said.
The Municipality of Chair, it added, remains committed to preserving public order, respecting institutions and promoting coexistence between communities.
