Andonovski expects country to be first in region to meet EU roaming requirements

Skopje, 6 March 2026 (MIA) - The Ministry of Digital Transformation is finalizing activities for alignment with the European regulations on introducing the "Roam Like at Home" model with the European Union, while also opening the issue of detailing the legal framework for influencers and content creators, said Minister of Digital Transformation Stefan Andonovski on Friday.

Minister Andonovski said the European Commission officially launched the process for the Western Balkans a fortnight ago, with each individual country in the area to individually meet the requirements prior to starting the bilateral negotiations.

"The EU has already received the amendments to the Law on Electronic Communications that fully align our country with the Union requirements in the aspect of security, fair use of roaming, prices, cross-border fees etc. I expect this text to be adopted once the EC provides its comments. This means we would be the first country in the region to meet the 'Roam Like at Home' requirements, followed by negotiations with the Commission, which will be our representative before European telecom operators. I expect this to happen in 2026 but the pace will depend on the EU. We are prepared," said Andonovski.

On the regulation of influencers, the minister said a meeting with the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services has been scheduled on the issue.

"Yesterday, we met with representatives of the Association of Influencers and we have scheduled a meeting with the Agency director, in order to solve an impasse in the law that makes no distinction between a platform (Instagram, Facebook, YouTube) and a content creator using this platform to distribute his/her own content. We have to be in line with the European requirements, which make a clear distinction between the two," explained Andonovski.
