Aliu: Having at least one municipality more than DUI is a win for us

Skopje, 2 October 2025 (MIA) - We will consider ourselves winners of the elections if we have at least one municipality more than DUI, says Health Minister Azir Aliu, who is part of the Vlen coalition.
Aliu told Kanal 5 that the party supporting the candidate who loses the election in the Skopje municipality of Chair "is in big risk".
"Chair is a very interesting municipality because of two things. First, Izet Mexhiti (the Vlen candidate) was part of DUI only three years ago. Second, Bujar Osmani is DUI's second-in-command. If he loses, then DUI is a political party in big risk. The same goes for Vlen, because Mexhiti is one of its leaders," says Aliu.
He says elections in the municipalities of Chair, Tetovo, Zhelino, Bogovinje, and probably Struga and Debar will not need a runoff, saying every vote counts at local elections.
Asked if he sees the elections as crucial for Vlen, Aliu says the Government will continue to implement policies for the next three years.
Regarding the country's Euro-integration process, he believes that the EU path is very important for the Government, the state and all political parties.
"I think that processes will have more clarity after the local elections," notes Aliu.
When asked if Albania would finish the EU accession negotiations y 2030, Aliu says both Albania and Macedonia will join the Union at the same time.
"The first reason for this is the geography but also global political developments," underlines Aliu.
