Skopje, 30 March 2020 (MIA) — Macedonian actress Zorica Nusheva has won the Best Actress Award from the Seville European Film Festival for her role in Macedonian filmmaker Teona Strugar-Mitevska’s God Exists, Her Name is Petrunya.
Thanking the festival organizers for the prize, Nusheva expressed her hopes that everyone is safe in this time of crisis.
“Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” she said.
“Thank you for this honor, it’s truly incredible. I hope all of you are safe. Let’s be smart. Stay at home, be safe.”
Festival organizers awarded the 2019 Best Actress Award to two performers.
“Marta Nieto (for Mother), for the ferocious intensity with which she depicts a deep, non verbal and interior conflict,” according to the festival website.
“And Zorica Nusheva (for God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya), for the strong usage of silence, body language and inner strength to portrait a firm and defiant personal attitude in a very difficult situation.”
God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya was chosen to compete for the Golden Bear prize at the 69th Berlinale. The film was to be distributed in Japan, but due to the coronacrisis, its Japanese premiere was postponed until April. mr/
