Geneva, 5 March 2021 (dpa/MIA) — The World Health Organization (WHO) has abandoned plans to publish the first results of its investigation into the origin of the coronavirus in China.
Instead of a preliminary report, the full report will now be presented in the week beginning on March 14, WHO team leader Peter Ben Embarek said in Geneva on Friday.
Embarek traveled to China with around a dozen health experts in January in order to investigate where the coronavirus originated.
The WHO did not provide reasons for changing the plan.
The trip only came about after months of negotiations with the Chinese authorities, who want to prevent being pilloried as the culprit of the pandemic.
The results presented at a first press conference at the end of the trip in China were vague.
Embarek only confirmed that the virus had spread from bats to humans via an intermediate host, as previously assumed.
