Athens, 20 April 2021 (MIA) — Greek police in Thessaloniki and Kilkis arrested three Greek citizens on charges of smuggling drugs and weapons from North Macedonia into Greece, seizing 55.5 kilograms of raw cannabis, an automatic rifle, a machine gun and 139 bullets, MIA’s Athens correspondent writes.
According to the Greek police report, unknown members of the group brought three bags of cannabis and weapons from North Macedonia into Greece. The person who took the bags and the two people who received them near Kilkis were arrested.
Prior to their arrest, they had driven in two vehicles to Thessaloniki where they were to deliver the drugs to a fourth person — who has been identified but has not been arrested yet — when they were stopped by the police.
In addition to the cannabis, the weapons and the bullets, the police also seized their mobile phones, three vehicles, and 3,350 euros.
The three arrested people were charged with trafficking of drugs and weapons and brought before a public prosecutor.
The police investigation into the criminal network continues, according to MIA’s Athens correspondent. mr/
