ZNAM kicks off procedure ahead of local elections, talks under way with VMRO-DPMNE for mayoral candidates

Skopje, 21 June 2025 (MIA) – The Central Board of the Movement ZNAM – For Our Macedonia at a meeting Friday night decided to launch a procedure to register candidates for municipal councillors in the coming local elections. Regarding mayoral candidates, ZNAM, a junior government coalition partner, is in talks with VMRO-DPMNE. Names will be revealed as soon as talks are completed by the end of the month.

Talks are under way involving candidates for mayors and the municipalities and the City of Skopje with VMRO-DPMNE, said ZNAM spokesman Nikola Memov on Saturday. It is certain that the party will nominate its own candidates for mayors and for councillors, i.e. VMRO-DPMNE will have no candidate if ZNAM nominates its own and VMRO-DPMNE will endorse its coalition partner’s candidate, he told a news conference.

“It’s ZNAM’s position that we will nominate our candidates both for councillors and for mayors. These nominations will be agreed with VMRO-DPMNE with its endorsement, meaning the ruling party won’t nominate its candidates. We will have mutual support in the first round [of the elections],” Memov said.

Decisions involving the second wave of activities were passed in the meeting of ZNAM’s Central Board. Its members also appointed the secretary general, Goran Minchev, as head of the Central Election HQ.

Also, Memov announced that ZNAM on June 29 will hold its second congress to elect a new leader and new members of the Central and Supervisory Board.
