Mickoski: No arguments to accept Bulgarian demands, regretful that corrupt politicians accepted everything only to stay in power

Skopje, 15 May 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski has told Euronews Serbia there are no arguments to accept the Bulgarian demands and expresses regret that corrupt politicians accepted everything only to stay in power.

"If we include more parts of nations in our Constitution besides the ones that are already there - Albanian, Serbian, Turkish, Roma, Bosniak and so on - then one could ask 'What about Macedonians on the other side of the border, the ones living in western Bulgaria?' If, on one hand, you demand to be a constitutive nation due to a proposal that corrupt politicians in the past had accepted thinking they would stay in power, and on the other, there are 14 rulings of the European Court for Human Rights claiming there is a Macedonian community there and Bulgaria also fails to observe the Resolution it has signed for protection of human rights, then the question is what is the counter-argument", says PM Mickoski.

The PM says it is hypocrisy and double standard to come out and say 'this must be done because they are part of what we want to join', while they don't do their part.

"When it comes to human rights, the only institution in Europe to assess if someone's rights are violated or restricted is the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, which has already produced 14 judgments relating to the restriction of the human rights of Macedonians in Bulgaria and zero rulings regarding the Bulgarian community in Macedonia. Now, if you have these arguments, how can you come out before the citizens and say something, considering you have already changed your flag, used the temporary name, changed the constitutional name, changed the constitution on several occasions, with someone from Brussels continually saying 'only this one and that's it'" notes Mickoski.

He vows to fight and present the arguments across the globe, adding, "let's learn how to win in Washington, London, Brussels, Berlin, Rome, Paris, not only at home".

"This is the only way to convince the world in the veracity of your arguments. These are historic processes," says Mickoski.
