Gashi refrains from ‘premature comments’ about SCPC head, says institutions to be allowed to do their jobs without pressure or influence

Skopje, 28 April 2025 (MIA) - Following the latest developments involving anti-corruption chief Tatjana Dimitrovska, the Office of the Speaker of Parliament said Monday Speaker Afrim Gashi would initiate the appropriate parliamentary procedure for Dimitrovska's dismissal if the allegations are confirmed as part of court proceedings.

“Respecting the principle of presumption of innocence and the independence of the judicial bodies, the Speaker of Parliament refrains from making any premature comments. The main priority is to allow the relevant institutions to do their jobs without any pressure or influence. However, if the allegations are confirmed as part of court proceedings, the Speaker of Parliament will undoubtedly initiate the appropriate parliamentary procedure for dismissal,” Gashi’s Office said in a press release.

Earlier on Monday, the former SCPC head Biljana Ivanovska called for immediate resignation of the incumbent, noting that otherwise she was still "infecting" the institution. "Something needs to be done so that the institution can freely cleanse itself," Ivanovska said.

In response to a reporter's question over the latest developments involving incumbent anti-corruption head, Tatjana Dimitrovska, who was last week marked as a suspect in the "Additive" case due to disclosure of an official secret, Ivanovska said that a heavy blow has undoubtedly been dealt to society, citizens and the institution, pointing out that this is not the time to sit idly by. Ivanovska said it is now up to Parliament to act, since the head and members of the anti-corruption commission answer to the legislative body.
