Skopje, 9 April 2025 (MIA) – Since taking office, our government has focused on developing energy infrastructure that will provide long-term stability, sustainability, and economic development. Our strategy is based on the parallel development of public energy infrastructure and encouraging private investments in renewables, said Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources Sanja Bozhinovska at the ESG Adria Summit 2025 in Tivat, Montenegro.
Addressing the panel ‘Mobilising Capital for Green Projects,’ she underscored country’s efforts in the process of green transition, adding that with the support of EBRD, we are actively working on introducing innovative financial mechanisms as Contract-for-Difference that will reduce the risks for investors, the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources said in a press release.
“The green transition must be just. That is why we remain strategically committed to the modernization of thermal power plant REK Bitola, while simultaneously building solar and wind power plants in order to reach a 38% share of renewables by 2030. Regional cooperation is key. The construction of new interconnections with Albania, Greece, and other neighbouring countries will strengthen the region and open the door to greater investment,” Bozhinovska said.
She underscored key projects as the modernisation of thermal power plant REK Bitola, the construction of new solar and wind power plants, as well as the development of cogeneration plants as a transitional solution. Highlighting the importance of regional cooperation, she noted that the country is actively working on building new interconnections with neighbouring countries.
“This will enable greater stability of the energy system and open new opportunities for clean energy trading,” Bozhinovska said.
According to the Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Mineral Resources, the panel was also attended by high-level representatives from the EBRD, the International Finance Corporation, and leading companies in the field of renewable energy. The discussions highlighted the need for clearer regulations, greater transparency, and stronger regional coordination for the successful implementation of green projects.
The prestigious ESG Adria Summit 2025 in Tivat, attended by over 700 leading experts, entrepreneurs, and policymakers from the region, is held under the patronage of the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, and Prime Minister Milojko Spajić. This year, the event focused particularly on practical solutions for accelerating the green transition, with an emphasis on innovative financial models and public-private partnerships.
