Spasovski: Elections confirm country’s European capacity, SEC to announce results

The choice has been made, the path has been confirmed, North Macedonia continues on the right track to a secure European future, said Prime Minister Oliver Spasovski on Thursday.

Skopje, 16 July 2020 (MIA) – The choice has been made, the path has been confirmed, North Macedonia continues on the right track to a secure European future, said Prime Minister Oliver Spasovski on Thursday.

PM Spasovski told a press conference that citizens and the state demonstrated European capacity at yesterday’s elections, proving that the country is a deserved NATO member and a step away from he start of EU accession negotiations.

“The elections were crystal clear and the people’s will must be turned into legitimate institutions as soon as possible. A new government and parliament are needed to cope with serious decisions due to the COVID-19 situation, but also because of the European integration process,” said Spasovski.

He urged the State Election Commission (SEC) to announce the voting results because the citizens expect this.

“Every voter and participant in the electoral process, but primarily North Macedonia is the winner of yesterday’s elections. Our country has shown it is a deserved NATO member and heading for the start of EU accession negotiations. We demonstrated European values by administering safe, peaceful, fair, democratic, free and European elections befitting a country that is a step away from the start of EU talks,” noted SPasovski.

According to him, now comes a period of forming fully functional institutions that would take care of the people’s health and continue the process of European integration.

“The people’s will must be turned into legitimate institutions as soon as possible. I expect SEC to provide its contribution in the process, citizens expect the results, the Commission is obliged to come out and announce them,” said Spasovski.

He thanked the citizens and institutions, especially the Commission for Infectious Diseases, for the safe administering of the electoral process.

“Let’s be proud of yesterday’s fair and democratic day at which the people’s will emerged victorious,” underlined PM Spasovski.
