Russia calls on Turkey to seek ceasefire between Azerbaijan, Armenia

The Kremlin calls on Turkey to join efforts to restore a ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia amid the latter two countries' bloodiest fighting in years.

Moscow, 29 September 2020 (dpa/MIA) — The Kremlin calls on Turkey to join efforts to restore a ceasefire between Azerbaijan and Armenia amid the latter two countries’ bloodiest fighting in years.

“The Russian side is in constant touch with Yerevan, Baku and Ankara on various levels,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov says in comments carried by Russian state news agency TASS.

“We are calling on all countries, especially our partners like Turkey, to do everything possible to convince the opposing parties to cease fire and return to peaceful settlement of this long-standing conflict through political and diplomatic means,” Peskov says.

Russia is looking to “determine the next steps together with [its] partners in the OSCE,” Peskov says, referring to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, in which Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia and Turkey are participating states.
