Tehran, 27 November 2020 (dpa/MIA) – High-ranking Iranian nuclear physicist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh has been assassinated, state news channel IRIB and several news agencies reported on Friday.
Fakhrizadeh was shot “by terrorists” in Ab-Sard, a suburb in eastern Tehran.
Local authorities confirmed Fakhrizadeh’s death and also that several attackers were killed.
However, the Iranian Atomic Energy Organisation (AEOI) spokesman Behrus Kamalwandi denied the reports, saying, “our nuclear scientists are all well,” in remarks to ISNA news agency.
Fakhrizade had been a member of Iran‘s Revolutionary Guards and was an expert in missile production. Fars news agency said this was why Israeli secret services had long sought to eliminate him.
