The Holy Martyr George of Kratovo
Born in the town of Kratovo, the young George was by trade a goldsmith and a faithful and devout Christian. As soon as he turned 18, the Turks tried to convert him to Islam. But George remained as firm as a diamond in his faith. The Turks then tortured him harshly to eventually burn him at the stake. He died for the Christian faith on Feb. 11, 1515, in Sophia during the rule of Sultan Selim.
Bishop of Trier during the period of Frankish rule over the area from 486. His relics are enshrined in St. Matthias, Trier. Modestus suffered much during that difficult era.
