Berlin, 21 October 2020 (dpa/MIA) – Champions League finalists Paris Saint-Germain lose 2-1 at home against Manchester United in their first match of this season’s competition while Lionel Messi scores in Barcelona’s 5-1 defeat of Ferencvaros.
United took the lead through a retaken Bruno Fernandes penalty in the first-half before Anthony Martial put the ball into his own net after the break. The match looked to be heading for a draw, but Marcus Rashford struck late on to give the visitors the win.
Barcelona proved to be too good for their Hungarian opponents who however threatened early before Messi opened the scoring with a penalty. Ansu Fati made it 2-0 and Philippe Coutinho got the third. Ihor Kharatin did close the gap to 3-1 with a penalty of his own after Gerard Pique was sent off, but Pedri and Ousmane Dembele put the game beyond doubt in the final 10 minutes.
Borussia Dortmund lost 3-1 at Lazio, RB Leipzig won 2-0 against Istanbul Basaksehir, Chelsea were held 0-0 at home by Europa League champions Sevilla, and Rennes drew 1-1 with Krasnodar. In the evening’s earlier kick-offs, Juventus won 2-0 at Dynamo Kiev and Club Brugge 2-1 at Zenit St Petersburg.
