Skopje, 2 September 2020 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski met on Wednesday with the organizers of the Struga Poetry Evenings Festival and the recipient of the 2020 Miladinov Brothers National Award, poetess Iva Damjanovska.
Festival director Todorche Tasevski elaborated at the meeting on events that took place as part of the 59th edition of the Struga Poetry Evenings, shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He noted that only domestic poets attended festival activities, while others gave poetry readings online.
“Adhering to safety protocols the Struga Poetry Evenings organized a shortened edition all the while staging key events,” Tasevski said.
Pendarovski congratulated festival organizers on managing to preserve the six-decade tradition of the Struga Poetry Evenings, underlining the importance of art and culture in crisis situations, such as the coronavirus pandemic.
“We’ve been faced in the past couple of months with an unprecedented situation. Most events were postponed of cancelled. Thus, I’m glad that this globally renowned poetry festival managed to maintain its level of quality,” the President said.
