Skopje, 23 May 2020 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski congratulated Saturday members of the Vlach community on the National Day of Vlachs-May 23.
“On this day in 1905, Sultan Abdul Hamid II issued a decree recognizing the national rights of Vlachs in the Ottoman Empire and opening of schools in Vlach language as a significant step in the maintenance of their ethnicity and culture. 115 years later, members of the Vlach community in North Macedonia enjoy their civic and political rights, thus enhancing their ethnic, lingual and cultural identity. Our country can be proud of the contribution of the Vlach community in all walks of life. Our multiethnic and multicultural society is not only a result of provisions, standards and practices. This is a reflection of mutual understanding, unity and respect of all citizens,” says President Pendarovski in the note.
The President says North Macedonia and the entire globe are faced with the COVID-19 pandemic and the country must stay united in solidarity and responsibility “to protect ourselves, our loved ones and the entire community.”
“I have no doubts that we will soon emerge as winners through our strong will, commitment, discipline and caution, beating this invisible enemy that knows no race, ethnicity, religion, gender, ideological or any other affiliation,” says Pendarovski while congratulating the National Day of Vlachs.
