Skopje, 13 August 2020 (MIA) – President Stevo Pendarovski is to hand over on Thursday the mandate for formation of government to SDSM leader Zoran Zaev.
The handover is set to take place in the Villa Vodno at noon.
“Zoran Zaev, on behalf of ‘We Can’ coalition, which won the largest number of MP seats, briefed Pendarovski on talks with several parties for securing a parliamentary majority to form a government,” Pendarovski’s office said in a statement on Wednesday.
Earlier on Wednesday, SDSM said serious talks are ongoing on the formation of a stable parliamentary majority and government coalition with a 4-year term.
“Zoran Zaev will be the Prime Minister-designate of the new government that will lead the country forward in the next four years, SDSM said in a press release.
Latest information from VMRO-DPMNE over the negotiations on parliamentary majority came after Pendarovski’s office announced to hand over mandate to Zaev. VMRO-DPMNE spokesperson Dimche Arsovski said there were no new developments in the government formation talks.
“Let’s see what happens and how talks develop in the next days,” the VMRO-DPMNE spokesperson said.
Under the Constitution, the head of state has ten days after the Parliament’s constitution to hand over the mandate for the formation of government. The PM-designate within 20 days should submit a program to Parliament and nominate candidate for government members. Parliament elect the government with majority of votes.
