Skopje, 13 February 2020 (MIA) – The Macedonian Writers’ Association will be awarding its yearly prizes for poetry, fiction, essays, and children’s literature on Thursday at a members-only event also celebrating the 73rd anniversary of the country’s oldest writers’ association.
This year’s winner of the “Aco Shopov” award for the best book of poems is Pande Manojlov for his Southern Rivers, the MWA announced in a press release.
The “Stale Popov” award for best fiction will go to Jovan Strezovski for his Keeper of Secrets, and the “Dimitar Mitrev” award for criticism and essays to Katica Kjulavkova for her Order of Freedom: Interpretative Syncretism.
Zoran Pejkovski won this year’s “Vancho Nikoleski” best children’s book award for his Tiny Conversations between Kids.
At the awards ceremony, the panel of judges will introduce the winning books and elaborate on the reasons they were chosen, the MWA release reads.
Fifty-seven titles were submitted to the Dec. 2019 competition.
The “Literary Bridge” award for the best book published in a language of nationalities other than Macedonian will not be presented this year, because the entries in this category didn’t meet the criteria, according to the MWA. mr/
