A magnitude-7.5 earthquake struck off Alaska's Aleutian Islands on Monday, triggering a tsunami warning.

A magnitude-7.5 earthquake struck off Alaska‘s Aleutian Islands on Monday, triggering a tsunami warning.

The quake struck at 2054 GMT some 91 kilometres south-east of Sand Point, south of the Alaska Peninsula, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

It triggered a warning from the US National Tsunami Warning Center for the sparsely populated towns of Sand Point, Cold Bay and Kodiak on the Alaska Peninsula which was later dropped.

The USGS initially measured the quake as magnitude-7.4 before revising it up to 7.5.
