Berlin, 20 September 2025 (dpa/MIA) - Luca Zidane, the son of France great Zinedine Zidane, is eligible to play the national team of Algeria, the birth country of his grandparents.

The ruling body FIFA said on Friday that his change of association is completed.

Luca Zidane, 27, plays for Spanish second division side Granada and hopes to be called up for Algeria at the Africa Cup of Nations set for December 21 to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.

His grandparents left Algeria for France in 1953, and Zinedine and Luca were born in Marseille, with both holding dual citizenship.

Luca Zidane played in the French national teams from U16 to U20 level. The change was possible because he has not featured in the senior team.

Zinedine Zidane won the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 with France, and is a three-time World Footballer of the Year. He also won many titles at club level and coached Real Madrid to three Champions League titles. He has not coached since leaving Real in 2021.
