Skopje, 11 August 2026 (MIA) - Associations representing professional drivers from the Western Balkans will hold a regional meeting in Skopje on Tuesday to discuss solutions for the issue faced by drivers from the region concerning their stay in the Schengen Area.

The meeting is expected to be attended by the leaderships of professional drivers’ associations from North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The issue has still not been resolved. The meeting is being held so we can determine the agenda of our future activities,” the head of the Macedonian Transport Association – Makam-trans, Biljana Muratovska, told MIA.

The associations are asking that professional drivers be exempt from the rule limiting stays in the Schengen Area to 90 days within a 180-day period. They have issued a letter to the European Union with a request for a direct meeting.
