US administration links Dallas ICE shooting to 'radical left'

Washington, 25 September 2025 (dpa/MIA) - At least one person was killed in a shooting outside a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas on Wednesday morning, which the US government linked to "radical left" elements.

The Department of Homeland Security said a gunman opened fire from a nearby rooftop, also targeting a transport vehicle in a secure area. Three detainees were hit, one of whom died at the scene, while two others were taken to the hospital, according to local police.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on X that the suspected shooter is also dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The motive remains unclear, as does the identity of the victims.

US President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that threats and attacks by "Deranged Radical Leftists" are increasing, blaming Democrats who criticize ICE. He did not provide any evidence.

Vice President JD Vance described the shooter as a "violent left-wing extremist," during an event in North Carolina, without providing evidence. Noem said the attack should serve as a warning to the far left that rhetoric targeting ICE has consequences.

FBI chief Kash Patel suggested the attack in the US state of Texas could have been politically motivated against the work of the immigration authorities.

Patel posted a photo on X showing spent shell casings marked "ANTI ICE." No ICE officers were injured. He noted that a similar attack occurred at another ICE detention facility in Texas in July.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions in the United States. Increased ICE raids targeting migrants under Trump's stricter migration and deportation policy have triggered protests in various locations.

Republican senator from Texas, Ted Cruz, called on politicians to stop using rhetoric that "demonizes" federal immigration authorities. "We need to learn to work together without demonizing each other, without attacking each other," he said.
