Tourism fair focusing on rural households to be held in Skopje

Skopje, 20 January 2026 (MIA) – A Tourism Fair focusing on Macedonian rural households and businesses will be held on January 31 and February 1 in Skopje. According to the organizers, the aim is to bring rural and experiential tourism closer to the wider public, while also showing that travel is not only about destinations, but about experiences, connections, and participation in the everyday life of village communities.

The Fair will showcase small rural households with capacities of up to around 20 beds, authentic family wineries offering group and individual tastings, restaurant services and accommodation, as well as agricultural and rural businesses.

“The visitors will be able to learn about opportunities for short and extended stays and discover genuine rural experiences,” the organizers said.

During the Fair, all visitors will receive a voucher for a 15 percent discount on both products and services offered by rural households. In addition to discounts, visitors will have the chance to taste organic products, wines, rakija, traditional dishes, and homemade goods from different regions of Macedonia, directly from the people who cultivate, produce, and create them.

“Each product carries its own story, regional identity, and knowledge passed down through generations. This fair is part of a broader vision for sustainable and creative tourism, the development of tourism along the E-75 corridor, the development of rural areas, and the emphasis that visitors to Macedonia are not merely guests, but active participants – those who stay longer, learn, taste, and connect with the place and its people,” the organizers stressed.

The Tourism Fair is organized by Public Room Skopje, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Agricultural Institute in Skopje, the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, and the Swiss Program for Increasing Market Employability – IME.
